Orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment is used to correct crooked teeth, bad bites, and other misalignments of the teeth and jaw. This includes the use of metal braces, clear ceramic braces, and Invisalign aligners. Most patients receive orthodontic treatment between the ages of 8 and 14 years. However, adults are also able to achieve a straighter smile through orthodontic treatment. With today’s advanced treatment options, you may be able to achieve straight teeth in less time than you may think!

Need for orthodontics

By straightening your teeth, you can improve the appearance of your smile and boost your confidence. You’ll also have an easier time keeping your teeth clean, which can help prevent cavities and gingivitis. Straight teeth are easier to keep clean because they are easier to brush and floss effectively. In addition, patients who undergo orthodontic treatment often experience less pain when eating or chewing because their bite is aligned correctly.

Braces

Traditional braces are the most commonly used form of orthodontic treatment. They are made of high-grade stainless steel or ceramic and consist of brackets bonded to the front of the teeth and an archwire that threads through the brackets and applies pressure to the teeth to gradually move them into their proper position. Braces can be used to correct a wide range of orthodontic issues, including underbite, overbite, open bite, and crossbite. Other appliances, such as retainers and headgear, may be used in conjunction with braces to help achieve the best results possible.

The cost of braces can vary based on factors such as the complexity of the case (including the severity of the problem to be corrected). Many dental insurance plans cover a portion of the cost of braces and other orthodontic treatments. While some patients choose to pay for their treatment with cash or check, many orthodontists offer flexible payment options to help make treatment more affordable.

What are Invisalign aligners?

The Invisalign treatment process begins when a dentist takes photos and X-rays of your teeth and gums before creating a 3D image, or “mock-up,” of the way your teeth will look after treatment is complete. Typically, a series of aligners are created for each stage of the treatment process, and patients switch out their aligner trays every two weeks as their teeth gradually move into place.

The clear plastic of Invisalign aligners makes them virtually invisible to anyone looking at your smile, so you can feel confident wearing them no matter what you’re doing—talking with friends over coffee, working at the office, etc. And with Invisalign’s easy removal system, you can continue to enjoy your favorite foods and beverages whenever you like without worrying about damaging your new smile.
